Ice (not) Out reports

East Bearskin Lake from the lodge May 4th

Info from a few sources on current lake ice conditions.

Observations from one of the forest service employees on Monday:

Little John : open (as far as I can see from the landing)
McFarland :pulling away from shore and has dark spots
 E. Bearskin:  pulling away from shore and has dark spots
W. Bearskin @Clearwater:  pulling away from shore and has dark spots
W. Bearskin @Hungry Jack: has dark spots
Clearwater: pulling away from shore and has dark spots
Poplar:  pulling away from shore and has dark spots
Poplar E. end:  pulling away from shore and has dark  spots
Swamp-Poplar portage :pulling away from shore and has dark spots

Observations from Bill Hanson, at Sawbill Outfitters:

Sawbill Lake is still at 15″, but pretty well degraded.  I’m guessing it will go out in the next few days.  Along the Grade Road, Moore Lake is out, Jock Mock is mostly out, Crescent looks about like Sawbill, and Two Island is still white.

A picture taken by a forest service employee of Ram Lake on 5/3.  When I first saw the picture, just opened on Andy’s monitor, I thought it was a photo of East Bearskin taken from the forest service cabin point.  It’s not, but there are shady spots on East Bearskin that still look a lot like this. Degradation of the ice is erratic.
